5 Alternatives to Real Time Strategy Games

Why would you need an alternative to a real time strategy (rts) game you ask?

Because you never had a frickin chance, that’s why.

The truth about rts games is that there is an elite group of players out there who have Bruce Lee like reflexes and I will never have any prayer of defeating them at any game where quickness is an essential asset. That being said I am continually drawn back into these games because…

  1. I like strategy video games
  2. I can’t help but buy into the lie that “maybe this time it will be different” (spoiler alert: it’s never different and I always die).

The truth is that I might actually be getting slower while the competition seems to only be getting faster. So what do we do? Well if you are like me you find yourself moving more towards turn based strategy board games. However not all of us have people to play board games with and some of us just like being able to boot up a computer and play a couple quick games without the hassle of setting up and tearing down a board game.

So here you go. These are some great alternatives to an rts like Startcraft II.

I haven’t actually been playing a whole lot of starcraft lately but I usually hover around 80-90. I’ve been above 100 on pretty crazy games but I wouldn’t call that my norm!

I can’t wait for Heart of the Swarm and Earth Banana’s next game of course.
